drawing a day ~ week 26

drawing a day ~ week 26 Originally uploaded by dressform.

wow... the ritual is back. feels oddly familiar - like i'm having deja vu... oh yeah i used to blog about my week of drawings on mondays.... late... after class....

this set was definitely more of a struggle, but what also came back were all the thoughts about why i was doing this project in the first place. esp. this week when i don't think i'll have a spare moment to step into the studio. [other than to maybe pick something up/drop something off....] it was actually nice to have a "non" color... to really concentrate on the lines... the space. the bird one is the one that really hummed for me this week. just copying some funny etching of a bird... and then adding a crown. so silly. so simple... so my frame of mind at the moment. [what exactly does that say?]

so... i had to deal with not 1 but 2 counts of plagiarism with my students. i have NEVER had this happen before. as i was reading/grading my heart just sank. neither student is "bad" or problematic... but is there really any excuse for copying something WORD FOR WORD from a website [without siting credit]? did they think i wouldn't notice? the vocabulary and stylistic tone were completely different in the sections they actually wrote and the sections they blatently snatched. in a collegiate environment how would this ever seem appropriate. am i crazy? aaarrrrgggghhh

speaking of pirates :} did you see lisa's [bird] ship?? loved that.

and finally for your funny bone.... remember when i wore an e-collar? and then miss a did too??? well... they were on the RUNWAY. yes gaultier... just go see the boing boing reference....

Lovely drawings!! So so beautiful. The bird & crown - the dark dollie! Doesn't feel from viewing like you skipped a beat! and then the ties on the flowers are quite nice - all your work has a bit of humor in it!! lovely!

your students:
oh no
ug! what do you do?

it's so nice to see your drawings a day again, i love the bird too...that's too bad about your students. it's an important lesson to be learned though. sad that they don't realize it's better to be a not so great writer (or anything for that matter) and authentic, then better on false pretenses. hope things are calming down a little for you, Lisa.

WOW! it's amazing you are on week 26 with this! when did i jump in? this is so encouraging. as i mentioned in flickr - i LOVE the drawings of your doilies - they are really working (for lack of a better word - too early) for me! thanks for your words of encouragement lisa - this idea of doing something like this creatively everyday may work - at first it seemed overwhelming, but looking at it from your perspective may make me better at my objectives (if that makes sense) and more obtainable!
Great drawings Lisa!! I like the dark colours too...

That's rubbish news about the Plagiarism...when I was doing my dissertation last year people I know thought it was okay to steal from other works found on the internet (not that anyone picked up on it!!)..and then moaned they couldn't find enough good quotes...Eh! hello! Stoopid! (raw nerve perchance??..I hear your frustration!)...I can see how hard a situation that will be for you to have to sort out, so do hope it goes well!

Hope your busy week is also a good one :) XX

I love the saucy king bird and I think the dark dollies are really powerful. There’s something about them that just gets my imagination going. I said on flickr that the smaller one reminds me of slowly swirling snow, like something out a dark fairytale.

Oh plagiarism, how foolish! I’m sorry you have to deal with it.

Hi Lisa

Great to see your drawings back after your break...love how the darkness of the line changes the whole colour of the series, it makes the paper look 'silvery'

Sorry to hear about the plagiarism...hope you can resolve this ok? i'm sure the student involved will be mortfied when they know they have been found out...I'm sure they won't ever try it again!

to everyone: i talked to my students... one has re-submitted her paper [and she was so embarassed] and the other was confused, but i think will also re-submit. i honestly think they didn't get how bad it was for them to do... which boggles my mind, but really seems like the case.... sigh....

wendy.... you are so nice for saying it doesn't seem like i skipped a beat....

shanna... so well put. authenticity is the key!

jan... i am thrilled that you are hopping on bored the something daily train. i think you'll find that it really changes how you work and think about things.... looking forward to seeing the lovely imagery you create!

abigail... i'm trying to pronounce stoopid in my head w/ a scottish accent.... :D love that!

abee... :) king saucy loves you back!

natalie... oohhh silver paper?? now that would be cool.... i love that you notice/point that out. it just tickles me....

oh, I've missed the drawings so much. headed to flickr shortly to take a closer look.

yo, what's up with all the plagiarism?

and also-- hilarious about the e-collars. just goes to show that you never EVER know what's going to come down the runway... :)
