drawing a day ~ week34

drawing a day ~ week34 Originally uploaded by dressform.

i'm in some time warp... it still feels like monday - i'm an hour ahead of what time it really is and i don't even want to think about what i still have to get done tonight. i'm feeling a bit like a broken record over here.... blah blah blah blah. someone should bust out their baby violin for me! but here are the drawings! week 34 of them...

the trip to the desert was short but also quite sweet. the land of enchantment. i'm not sure what that means exactly, but i can't help but think that enchantment and entrapment can get close in my mind. there are so many amazing things there [including the desert people who i got to see for lunch. too too too short of a visit, but i'll take a short visit over a no visit]. there is also a lost sense of time - a lack of urgency which can be wonderful, but also boggles my multi-tasking brain. i simply can't drive 40 on the freeway. can't.

maybe it's the altitude, maybe it's the expanse of sky, maybe it's the lack of water [i feel disoriented not knowing where the ocean is]... the ruddy brown red landscape on which you really expect to see a native american trotting across the plains on a horse.... or maybe it's the rock hard snot that accumulates in your nose.... the desert isn't kansas and it's definitely not california. i do love being out of your element - where things are new and different and slightly hazy from being unfamiliar. where the sky is SO BLUE [don't we all live under the same sky? apparently not] and the clouds just that much closer.... not to mention that hubby's mom has created a house that belongs in a magazine. a high end deocrating magazine - for real. a feast for the eyes. i took a gazillion pics. i'll share those over the week....

and more on the way... i have some big things to announce....

but i want to leave you with another holy canoli quote... one that is just dear to my heart/mind:

Until I figured out that the flight between questions is itself a workable system, I craved answers, rules, a code

i think i am all about the question. the questions are sometimes better than the answers. and my brain chugs with question after question. i love that someone acknowledges that it is a workable system. i am not alone... which leads me to one last thought. i have been thinking a bunch about this whole blog thing. over the weekend someone said "when do i get to tell my stories"? and that's what this is really - isn't it? storytelling. and that is part of the human condition. we are wired to tell, to listen, to relate to one another... to make a mark [cave painting anyone? the original blog!].... happy mid week!

A German poet named Rilke wrote a series of Letters to a Young Poet about 100 years ago that said the same thing: don't look for answers to questions but just keep asking the questions. Going to another place somehow refreshes the mind, doesn't it?!? Bring on the photos and the announcements!!

I love your questions. The roll around in my mind and pop out in unexpected places in my day. I love that. I love questions how they unfold and change into another question.
And the drawing are so lovely!! I love the circles going off the page and seeing sky again!! Funny.

we are all storytellers, indeed, and our stories resonate more than we realize =)

oh lisa,
wowsers. i love all that you say and i'm right there with you! the desert and its grand bluer than blue sky...the expansiveness of it all. i think we all need that sometimes. i also love what you say about blogging being like storytelling. so true. xo! shari
ps: love the set of drawings this week. playful and fun.

Yes, we called it the Land of Entrapment when we lived there as well - there's a lot of "dead-end" mentality there. When I got a scholarship to be an exchange student in Germany, people said "Why would you want to do that?" When I mentioned wanting to go to New York, they said "Only one other person from our town ever went there, and she couldn't do it. She came back." I am not kidding. (My mental answer was always: Why would I go away? Precisely because you all think no one would ever want to! Because I am surrounded by people who see no interest in anything else!)

Still, that SKY! That AIR! That LAND! God, I miss it, but I could never, ever, live there "for real" again.
Oh I know how you feel about time running away with itself...if you cant get your hands on that baby violin..let me know and i'll lend you mine {its small but curiously loud!) ;P (hehe)

I feel like I want to get up North, see the huge hills and mountains that make you feel truly humble and insignificant and lost (yet found)....Mmmmm...someday soon...{my version of the desert}

Love the drawings this week too, as always...such a great journey to watch!...and looking forward to hearing the big news to cure the big anticipation!! hugs...xox

aaaahhhhh, the drawings. I have missed them (not for the lack of you posting them, but I am finally coming up for air). and on to your flickr set I go. :)

as for the blogging thing, I have been having so many conversations about it lately with so many different people-- my mother-in-law, fellow bloggers, complete strangers... you name it. and you're right-- it is about storytelling. about having a voice and wanting to use it and needing for it to be heard. it's a profound thing, this blog movement. other people may laugh, but it is.
