on collecting.... and...

japanese primer

it's been a long time since i posted a corner ... remember when amanda started the group? [aside: have you been looking at her daily photo project?]

this was a reject shot from the ones i sent over to jan at poppytalk who asked me to talk a bit about my collections . she's put together a great collection of collections. see them all .

above is what i'm calling my "japanese primers" [finally framed them]. i found them at a flea market in tokyo for 500 yen [$5]. the colors are totally intense and the pictures are really funny. if i tried REALLY hard i might be able to make out what the text on the right is - at least some of it. :)

on poppy today

my brain has been on overdrive lately. i think it's partially because i'm not getting everything done that i want to get done [this 1/2 sickness stuff is for the birds. i think i'm ok, and then i try to do stuff and nope. i'm exhausted]. i think it's also because i haven't had a good studio day yet this year. a whole day of me making. this makes me antsy. i also have several things in their beginning stages - nothing is at a point where i feel like it's on course. i'm still researching and thinking and feeling that something could shift... this is both good and bad.

btw andrea asked when the show with lisa will be at art stream ... we are working on the dates for sure - but july/august.... thanks for your interest [andrea has a piece in their next show! yay!]

i met my painting I students today. i'm excited to be teaching painting again. it's been awhile. i'm hoping that now that my teaching schedule is "set" i can get into the groove of everything else. is anyone else feeling a bit unsettled so far in 08? [and when did january fly by?]

Yes,very unsettled indeed. Wanting to achieve so much this year but keep coming up against brick walls. I guess I should knock them down but I sometimes crave for a nice quiet life....Lovely collections x

lisa,

i saw your collections on the poppy blog and was very intrigued by the bird nests and the glass collection. i heart special glass, too.

yes on the january. where did it go? i suffer the same "i'm not getting done what i want to get done" syndrome. very yes on feeling unsettled.
but the year is young, it can still turn out a great one :)
i was wondering where january went myself, im sure months are shorter now than they used to be... loved your popytalk feature - great collections!...x

i agree with julie tho, warm weather will definitely help!
i love how you mentioned a dream job would be collecting for others. that does sound like fantasy work...

i just kept nodding to the january thoughts... i am still feeling so unsettled. there are so many little bits dangling everywhere... and february on friday?! what?! i am still on new year's mode...
agreeing with the other comments that maybe spring will help with all of this. it is after all my first 'true' winter...

First - love the color of your walls! It's such a happy, calm color - I'm all about the happy calm as I try to wrap my brain around wall colors for a hallway and a bedroom.
Second - the Japanese primers are fantastic! The color does just jump out and grab you.
And third - I really hope you feel better soon. There's nothing worse than that antsy creative feeling and not being able to do anything about it 'cause you're sick.

It's an interesting thought that although January is just another month, many of us entered it like babies squinting their eyes to the morning sun, still trying to find their feet. Love your framed japanese primers + Jan's fascinating posts on collections.

I love seeing bits of your house Lisa. And your robot thoughts are looking amazing up there. Just as an aside, you have great handwriting.

Hope you are well! xo
