being sick + tether ball

why i love japan

um - first i just want to thank you for all the kindness regarding my last post. thanks for being so enthusiastic about my endeavors. it really means a lot to me.

my tanks came back from the japanese museum show . and of course the museum stacked them perfectly by color. it's just one of those things that would happen in japan - and why i feel such an affinity - it's like a little bit of order in some chaos. structure within something that doesn't really warrant it - i opened the crate and there was just this little bit of ordinary beauty to make my day [and make carrying the heavy crate worth it]

i have been sicker than i've been in a long time - so if you have been wondering why i haven't been around the internets - that is why. thank god for my amazing husband who took the greatest care of me. i am so so lucky. he doesn't allow me to take care of him in the same way so i'll have to find another way to repay him....

last night as i tried to fall asleep without dry hacking out my lung i kept thinking of tether ball . i'm not sure why this is, but i kept trying to make it into a metaphor for life. random yes. did you play as a kid? it's not like it's the most interesting game, and yet i remember playing it for entire recesses. and then i had this desire to pull out a pair of scissors while the ball was spinning around and just cut it free. a yellow ball catapulting in some direction. [sigh. what in the world does this say about my mental state?]

hope your weeks are off to a good start. i'll be around soon.....

i loved tether ball as a kid, although i was never very good at it.
i did love to push the ball REALLY hard and try to get the rope to wrap around the pole super fast.
and
i'm totally going to take you up on that offer to go to lacis.
and maybe the secret button store too???

Oh my dear, that cough is a horrendous thing, isn't it? I woke up Valentine's Day with it and it hasn't totally left me yet! I wish you a speedy end to the dry hacking.

(Oh, I remember when I was a kid, they took our tether ball away from us because one of the boys had a penchant for aiming it at girls heads!)

Oh no, I am just getting over that nasty cough bug! And like Hannah, my ribs are SORE! I wish you a speedy recovery.

I love that stack of tanks...and I loved playing tetherball as a child...fun fun.

So sorry you are sick. I am glad to hear you are being well taken care of though:) I hope you are on the mend soon.

Tether ball...have not thought of that in forever. Love the scissor image though.
I am so sorry you are feeling so under par...let yourself be looked after and rest up well! You have been working so hard these last months, a rest was likely needed whether you wanted or not.

Is this not always the way when we get sick?

The tanks are amazing...so perfectly ordered. That would make me happy too.

Mmm...we call that Swing Ball here, though we didn't have it at school. Super idea mind you, I loved it so....

Feel better sweet one, xo

i used to love tether ball, too. i'm not sure what your thoughts say about your mental state, but it reminded me of this weirdness - i've become resistant to wearing a seat belt. i wonder what that says about my mental state...

(hope you're feeling better)

I hope you are better soon. Your husband sounds like a sweetheart:)
I am so so excited to show you an artist I discovered at the ACC show. I know she is going to take your breath away. I teared up upon seeing her work and it so reminded me of you. I need to get my photos sorted out and I'll send you an image:)

Being sick is no joy at all.

my friend masami would stack these that way and think nothing of it, so i know what you mean. it's seems so effortless. hope you're feeling better!

I love the way your work was returned. I'm pretty sure I'd do the same stacking if it were my job to pack this work up for you. I can totally relate to deriving great pleasure from order.

Hope you're feeling much better today. xo lj

a tardy tetherball story - when i was in grade school, i was the queen of tetherball. or rather, the queen bee, especially since i was tall. once, in fourth grade, i played this puny little third grader, and i beat her, really fast, and then i made fun of her. "hey, are you gonna cry, baby?" and in fact, she did. i'm not entirely sure why i remember this bullying session so well except that i forgot it until years and years later, when i turned on mtv, and saw the girl i had tormented. she was alicia silverstone, and she was in an aerosmith video! how's that as a metaphor for life?

hope you're all well now.
