26 april

this last week was one in which a lot and nothing seemed to happen simultaneously. have you had one of those weeks? where there is HUGE news - good news - good times - and somehow you are simultaneously befuddled and tired and so not as much got done as it should. yup. it was that.

the REALLY good news?? my folks have moved to my hood to be closer to their one and only granddaughter. i'm so thrilled about this - for her ! - for me ! - for them ! this is so utterly cliche, but, having a child has given me a new found respect and frankly a healthy dose of AWE for my own parents. my heart melts every time i hear the little say "ba-ba" and "pa-pa" with a big smile on her face....

and in the studio? i'm starting to feel some pressure. i have a couple of shows looming in the not to distant future and i really have to get working on those. one of the shows is going to be my take on deforestation. which means i have a lot of doily trees to crochet. i was giving myself the last few weeks "off" to try and gear up - but honestly i can't procrastinate anymore.... here we go, here we go, here we go.

15 april

and i just have to show you these. hubby grew them. fava beans are so good. especially these young "new" ones. no need to shell the inner pod. some olive oil, some garlic. oh good. just the right hint of bitter.....

happy last week of april to you [yikes]

unexpected

little buddhas with red caps

i was the unexpected guest today on sf girl by the bay .

i'm blushing a bit at the nice things that victoria had to say. and then i'm blushing at some of my silly answers to her questions. especially when i read martha's UE post or elisabeth's UE post or many of the other unexpected guests .

i do like seeing how someone else puts my life/photos together, though. and victoria is a master stylist....

above is an image of the japanese buddha souvenir i talked about. i can't believe it's from 2 years ago. i can almost still feel the burn from climbing all the stairs to see the nihonji daibutsu .

07 april

i've been keeping up the habit ! over on flickr . thank you habit blog . i'm really going to try and keep it up.

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

i've been thinking a lot about language. the little is really really trying to communicate. her vocabulary is slowly growing. i've told you about "out out". she also says "up up" a lot. almost everything with her comes in doubles. she's just starting to say more - "mo mo" and of course there is no - "no no" - complete with waving hand gesture. what is fascinating to me, though, is how many ways she can use her limited vocabulary to make me understand what she wants. "up up" - she says this while climbing up stairs : when she wants to GO upstairs because she's tired and ready for sleep : when she lifts something off the ground : when she wants the lid off of a jar or tupperware : when she wants me to pick her up or put her on the couch... i really wish i could understand her "gibberish" - she says "bye-bye" and then a whole slew of "words" when we say goodbye to the park, or to buses, or the outside - it sounds like the same sentence to me - i wonder what it means to her.....

p/s thanks for the tiny showcase support. in these economic times i'm happy that people find room in their budgets to support art. if you are interested, there are some prints left ....

happy week to everyone.

2 things + this spring

*** doily body part 2 on Tiny Showcase TONIGHT !!! ***

OK. so i'm busy blasting this news all over the place - so one more time !!
one down 2 to go.... the lungs launched last april and now....

either the heart or the brain will be on Tiny Showcase TONIGHT as this week's print.

launch is scheduled for approx. 7:30pm eastern / 4:30 pm pacific time.

i've chosen the San Francisco SPCA as the charity - so they will receive $250 from the proceeds of the sale.

[something is compelling me to say in my best TV salesman voice - "collect all 3 ! " - or if you missed out on the lungs - collect 2 !]

tiny showcase is such a cool organization - they are always a joy to work with. thanks for having me again guys.

under the wisteria

it's definitely feeling springy. although we had a bit of winter come back with some very very cold and rainy [and hail!] weather.

but i wanted to write a spring manifesto - inspired by 10 comments
