long long ago when i would troll the internet looking at artists and following links from one place to another - bookmarking things that caught my eye - occasionally emailing artists that i found that resonated with me... i discovered andrea lofke . there was something about her whimsical installations that caught my eye. they were goofy, but also more than just that. 

i emailed her. said i liked her work. she emailed back !! and once when she was out in california we had breakfast. quite a treat. 

fast forward to now. we both have kids. we both struggle to keep up our practice. somehow managing to keep up by the skin of our teeth [where exactly did that expression come from ??]. she just sent me this gorgeous catalogue of her work. visit her website to get the bigger picture [and don't miss the drawings]. i asked her if they were for sale somewhere, and as of today no... but maybe i'll be able to tell you soon where to find them - because after all books are nice. 

speaking of which - have you seen MIEL's 2012 fall launch. any company whose tagline is: difficult, interesting, intelligent, deeply felt | supplies for readers and writers -  immediately gets my respect. and any company that is 1/2 run by the thoughtful eireann gets my devotion. truth be told - before eireann's poetry book music for landing planes by i didn't really read poetry. wait. rephrase. i didn't often GET poetry. i read it. thought i should like it. read some more still thought i should like it, but felt bad that most of it just didn't get into my system the same way that art did.

and MIEL's description: How does the brain collect information? How is what we know categorized and sorted? What would happen if we tracked each thought as it passed? What new relationships might be possible if each thing we witnessed and lived were not relegated to this or that kind of experience, but were seen holistically, like leaves on one tree?

YES PLEASE. i've only read 2 thus far, but i am in love with them already. small paragraphs. glimpses. powerful in their succinctness.

and exciting news !! MIEL has graciously offered to publish a monograph of my work. HAND/MADE. a book. really. about me. it's sort of unreal. i mean if i hadn't seen a galley and had conversations with the essayists [yes. essays. two.] i wouldn't really believe it. several bodies of work. the first 50 of the edition will come w/ prints [that i will be signing NEXT WEEK thanks to paper monkey press]. mark your calendars. MARCH 2013. there will be books. they will have [i think] a vellum wrap around small sleeve. there will be hot pink. there will be some jumping up and down.

yes. i feel lucky. and excited. happy week to you. we are having our last small and short indian summer round these parts. but fall is in the air....
